Re: Just bought my first handgun
Yeah E--
I've got a Ruger P94 in .40-- Ive had it for about 7 years and I love it - it's a beefy tank of a gun. Good choice:applause_ |
Re: Just bought my first handgun
Rugers are built to work and last forever. Congradulations.... check out Ruger's revolvers too. For home defense handguns I prefer revolvers (Ruger GP100 and SP101 in 357Magnum w/38+Ps, Redhawk 44 Magnum with 44SPL HPs) and a semi-auto sub-compact for carry (Glock27). I had a Ruger 45 but had to sell it...wish I still had it....a great gun. Sign up at the Ruger forum....lots of info there. Have fun and practice-practice-practice.

Re: Just bought my first handgun
My first revolver was a Ruger Security Six .357 Mag - I love that pistol! Ive shot some rather nasty loads thru it and it always stays tight
|
Re: Just bought my first handgun
I've got that exact same Ruger. Great gun. I hope you were able to get some of the 15 round mags it was designed to use. Mine came with a 10 round clip & I had to hunt down a few 15 rounders at a local gun show. Well worth it.:applause_
Its a breeze to take down & clean as well. If you've never done it, here's a useful vid on youtube: Have fun! |

Re: Just bought my first handgun
I've shot one of those before. Back when I was a really new shooting. Personally I haven't liked them all along. But....everyone who owns one that I've met says they are bullet proof.
Depending on how much you shoot, that thing will probably last you a lifetime. Now buy A LOT of ammunition! |
Re: Just bought my first handgun
Could not tell if that was a p95 in .45 but if it is then my sister just bought the same one a few weeks ago. She loves it but she can;t shoot anything but FMJ thru it without constant jamming. But anyways she loves it so enjoy it as m p95 in 9mm is still kicking after all these years. Have fun.

Re: Just bought my first handgun
I have a Ruger P94 in 9mm, it was my first gun purchase years back.
It has never missed a beat, Ruger makes very solid, affordable firearms. Can't beat em' for "bang for the buck" (pun intended) |
Re: Just bought my first handgun
Congrats! I concur with others here. ALWAYS practice proper handgun safety as failure to do so is the leading cause of accidents. I purchased my 3rd yesterday. My 9mm just doesn't have the stopping power. Of course with high capacity mags, I figure its time to run if I cant stop someone with 17 rounds. Nonetheless, I picked me up a Taurus .45 yesterday too. Now 'Betsy' has a new friend, 'Mr. Happy'.

The P95 is a great piece, my only complaint is the handgrips...on a hot day it can get a bit slick to handle. Easy enough to fix; bought a Hogue Handall slip-on grip: http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/prodimg/17000L.jpg http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merc...tid=114&step=4 A bit difficult to get on, but made an AMAZING difference in the feel of the gun. HUGE improvement for just a few FRNs. Definately recommend the Hogue grips to any P95 owner. I have no experience with the 20/30 round clip, & think I'd still prefer the Ruger factory-issued 15 round mag for reliablity purposes. Nice to know they are out there, tho. But, really, if you can't fend off an attacker with 15 rounds of +P ammo, you've really got problems!:D |
